It is not possible to teach the state curriculum without a degree of some kind, even if it is not teaching related, so the only other option is private language schools They offer around 700 - 950 Euros a month. You will have to pay extra for your rent which can be from 100 + euros per month. Some Schools will pay for your healthcare contributions or part of it. Bonuses can be expected after finnishing your 1 year contract too!! Ask about this in your interview.

To travel around Bulgaria, it's best to get the local bus transport - very cheap and safe. Bulgaria is a relatively safe country, but watch out in Sofia as it can be a bit dodgy at night! There is a demand for language teachers as Bulgaria is now in the EU (from 2011). Not many people in Bulgaria speak English, but the younger generation are getting there. In some areas of Bulgaria it may seem like you are back in the 1940s.
Life is chilled out, and the locals are friendly, and will try and help you if they can.

Bulgaria is a beautiful country and the people look stunning, They have either very dark features or really blond features, the people dress in a very modern way, and there are often dance parties at the weekend in Sofia and Varna. The young are party people and they know how to party hard - try the bar behind the art gallery in Sofia (it's where the locals go) well worth a visit on a night out in Sofia. The men look like they keep in shape as most of them look like bouncers or body builders. The women are thin and fit and body conscious. In Varna get to the resorts for the main clubs, most Bulgarians and tourists go to Varna in the summer months if they can afford it, for sun, sea and golden sands. Varna is the second largest city and has many schools.

The nature, the architecture (dating back to the Roman empire), the people and their millennia-old traditions. It is also a party country, so to speak. There are clubs and cafe's everywhere, it's what people do to relax and enjoy life, after their hard work and small paychecks. So, if you go there and you get paid decent money, you will have a good time.

It is true, well qualified English teachers are in high demand, because English has become the second language in Bulgaria, not French or Russian like it used to be. Just make sure that when you go there, you make some friends fast, and learn the language! It employs the Kyrillic alphabet, it has a different structure, but in modern Bulgarian language it is surprising how many words are borrowed from English and French, with slight "modifications". Bulgarians generally like tourists because they bring in money, and help fuel the economy. But they also like to take advantage of people with money and no "Bulgarian experience".
