A respected member of the European Union, it is a role model of international finance and quality of life, despite it’s very small size! Luxembourg is both successful and prosperous. As a result it is not cheap, but you do get spectacular green landscapes, with numerous rivers and tiny villages.
Luxembourg City, is old and tranquil despite frequent financial and EU gatherings. The north draws outdoors enthusiasts with great skiing and hiking. The Moselle Valley, just east of Luxembourg City, is one of Europe's best wine-producing regions. And what's most convenient, the capital is no more than an hour's drive from anywhere else in the country.
Luxembourg may not be as big a tourist draw, but it is unique. And its people are proud of their heritage and of their homeland.

Area: 2586 sq km (999 sq mi)
Population: 430,000

Culture

Greatly influenced by centuries of conquerors, the country isvery multilingual. With French and German being at the forefront. Both are used in the press and on the street. French is used by the government, and in schools, English is also widely understood. It is a small country but a multilingua one. Many private language schools offer a number of European language courses from English, German and French.

Luxembourg's cuisine includes plenty of pork, fish and game - but also features some heavy German influence in local specialties like liver dumplings with sauerkraut. Its beer (like that of neighbouring Belgium) is pretty good; as are the Moselle Valley's fruity white wines.

Luxembourg is a beautiful country with friendly people. It is well worth a visit.

Luxembourg City
The city is easily seen on foot. Most of the sights are along the southern part of the old town. The Old town is based around two large pedestrian squares, Place d'Armes and Place Guillaume. The city's modern commercial center is across the Pétrusse Valley to the south, connected by two bridges, Pont Adolphe and Pont Passerelle.
Ardennes
Valleys, rivers, green plateaus and spectacular castles make the region very popular with tourist and locals. Of the three main towns, Clervaux is the most accessible, Vianden is the most touristic, and Wiltz ... well, it's very nearby to the hamlet of Esch-sur-Sûre, which attracts a staggering number of visitors solely because of its location.
Costs
Though Luxembourg is not cheap by European standards, you can survive on a budget. Note that a 15% value-added tax (abbreviated in French as TVA) is slapped on just about everything except for hotels and restaurants, which are taxed at a much kinder 3%. Tipping is not obligatory.
