It is a very common thing for maltese to organise BBQs on their beaches. Many opt for the sandy beaches (situated mostly in the northern part of the country). However the rocky beaches are preferred by other. Friends or families meet to enjoy the nice evening weather while eating some grilled food.
Malta holds pretty long Siesta hours. Many things are closed between 1 and 4:30 pm each day, but they reopen until 7:30. This can be quite frustrating at times. (Bars/cafes etc don't close for siesta, but most shops and quite a few "attractions" do). Every village in Malta & Gozo has at least one fiesta which is usually celebrated between June and September. This makes Summer weekends especially interesting (feast mainly celebrated on Saturday evening & Sunday morning) as there are always various fiestas going on. What to expect : beautifully decorated churches, religous street processions, brass bands, plenty of confetti, spectacular fireworks, street decorations &lots more.

The Maltese are generally very friendly people, so just when you think that the word rip-off never made it into their dictionary, it's still one of the safest places in Europe!
