Eating out is extremely cheap. Portions are large and the quality of food is generally good, although the choice somewhat limited with most restaurants serving Portuguese dishes only. However, there are also Chinese, and Italian and Indian restaurants. Eating at home can also be cheap although meat and cheese are about the same price as in England. All EU citizens are eligible for a residence permit for Portugal. This can be obtained relatively easily once the person has written confirmation of a job offer.
Non-EU passport holders should have a job confirmed before they arrive in Portugal. US citizens can also secure a work permit for Portugal, once they have a firm offer of employment from a Portuguese-based school. But it can take about a year to be approved for a work permit. Pay is around from $800,00 - $1000,00 a month, it is one of the bext countries to work in if you looking to save money. In Spain and Italy your wages will range from €500 - €1000.00 per month.

There are many opportunities in Portugal for fully qualified TEFL teachers,with the right visa. The general level of English tuition in Portuguese State schools is very high, with many students graduating with the Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE). There is a clear preference for British English, though teachers from other English-speaking countries are rarely overlooked.
